Bogdan Vacarescu returns to the Tenby festival in a wonderful violin and piano recital.
Bogdan made his solo debut at the age of fourteen performing Vieuxtemps Concerto no. 4 with the Brasov Philharmonic conducted by Ionescu-Galati. He soon appeared under the baton of many prestigious conductors including Carol Litvin, Daisuke Soga (Japan), Petre Sbârcea, Ludovic Bacs, Antonio Ardinghi (Italy), Anthony Randall (UK), with the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, Sibiu Philharmonic, Ploiesti Philharmonic, Sinfonia Cambrensis (UK), performing major concertos by Paganini, Brahms, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Bach, Wieniawski, Bruch and others.
Bogdan has won national and international violin and chamber music competitions since he was five, when he was awarded first prize at the national competition Cântarea României. Following this he won many other competitions.
Bogdan has made numerous recordings on television and radio across the world on Romanian National Radio and Television, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4, BBC Wales and Manchester, ABC Australia, performing Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Paganini Caprices and solo works. He is particularly known for performing Bazzini’s The Round of the Goblins, Sarasate’s Habanera and arrangement of Carmen (Bizet), as well as music by Hubay and Kreisler. He has also recorded soundtracks for films and documentaries, most notably in collaboration with Gabriel Yared, BBC and ABC Television.
Bogdan is equally comfortable performing rock, Balkan and traditional music as he is on the classical stage. He has collaborated with Nigel Kennedy, Paprika, The Cat Empire, Graffiti Classics, She’Koyokh and many other successful ensembles in the UK.
He came to the festival three years ago with the band “Paprika”, to great acclaim. This year his programme will be a classical one. Bogdan will play pieces by Beethoven,Brahms, Vitali, Kreisler,Dvorak, Sarasate, Chopin and Bazzini.
